E8 section language
[edit]"Mapping the 248-dimensional structure(E8)" section is written like a magazine article. Actually it's a copy-paste from BBC News. So it's normal to have such a language. It should be rewritten. iyigun 18:21, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes it's a direct paste someone has done from the BBC news site. It should be revised.--Chaz 18:53, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Forgive the intrusion of a mere mortal attracted to reading about Lie groups by the BBC, but haven't you geniuses your own Journals in which to share your wisdom? Surely Wikipedia has a role to play in educating people like me? For my part, rather than 'revising' language in this article, I think it would be helpful to have some of your language on other Wiki articles about Lie Groups complemented by analogies and metaphors that, while no doubt technically inferior to your professional precision, have the virtue of enlightening those of us who are not so fortunate as your good selves. 86.30.143.111 09:17, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Martin
- It's not that the BBC wording is too amateur for us, it's that copy-and-pasting from the BBC constitutes a copyright violation. See WP:COPYRIGHT.Borisblue 20:00, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- Using analogies and metaphors to give mathematics a physical significance requires imagination. A person who knows only the mathematical symbolic forms will lack this quality.Lestrade (talk) 22:20, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Lestrade
Eight years in 1872
[edit]"In 1872, Lie spent eight years..." ... did he have a Time-Turner, or what? That would certainly explain how he managed to achieve so much... 76.130.95.198 (talk) 07:01, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
