Controversies to watch out for

[edit]

The article calls Spectrobes BVG's "first original property." But seriously, tell me with a straight face that:

I don't know about number 1, but on number 2, I hear you. For all we know, this could actually be a tie-in to a future film or TV show from the company. In any case, there is still more dirty laundry from the Eisner era to come, but that's another story... Brittany Ka 12:43, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The "knockoff" argument is idiotic. It's no better than saying "I played Digimon once, when it was called Pokémon". - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:16, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. "Original" in this sense isn't referring to inspiration but merely the fact that it's not based on an existing Disney creation. Tony Myers 19:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The only similarities between Pokemon and Spectrobes are that you go around collecting various creatures, battling opponent creatures with those creatures, training them and evolving them. There's no equivalent of gym battling, and no equivalent of the Elite Four, unless I'm mistaken. You don't get the creatures in the wild and catch them in a capsule, you excavate their fossils then reanimate them using your own vocal cords. Not to mention the sci-fi aspect of Spectrobes. There's really nothing else other than the creature-collecting element that's common between Pokemon and Spectrobes. Sincerely, Thrashmeister {U|T|C} 20:18, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind. You fight a Leader Krawl boss at regular intervals in the game. But there's still no equivalent of an actual gym. Sincerely, Thrashmeister {U|T|C} 01:53, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
also, you participate in realtime battles with your creatures, against creatures unlike your own. which is probably the biggest difference, since you aren't playing against more spectrobes. but yeah, they mena original as in NOT LICENSED. not as in unique. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.8.14.0 (talkcontribs)
I'd also like to add one point. I think a TV version of this is definitely coming soon. Why? In the webisodes, there's a masked person who's the supposed leader of all the Krawl. I just beat the actual game today, and there's no mention or appearance of that character at all. So it'd be kind of weird for Disney not to have closure on that. Sincerely, Thrashmeister {U|T|C} 01:25, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

67.182.178.220 00:00, 5 May 2007 (UTC) May o4, 2007 I agree with you on that point. It would be totally lame if DIsney had a sweet character like that and left the rest to our imaginations!!! Sincerely, Anonymous[reply]

In any event, if there isn't an upcoming Spectrobes series announced for either this fall (2007), or early 2008, then and only then will I believe that it is truly an original IP. Brittany Ka 20:57, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Release Date?

[edit]

The page says March 13th for the release date, but several people I know already bought the game a few days ago. I, myself, just bought the game today. And I'm pretty sure, unless I'm mentally retarded, it's not the 13th yet. Sincerely, Thrashmeister {U|T|C} 19:04, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The date of first publication is there for advertising purposes. Not all games are street dated. A store is free to sell copies of a game that has no street date as soon as it receives them from the publisher. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 20:21, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, okay. I had no idea there was such a thing as a street date before now, so thanks for clearing that up. Sincerely, Thrashmeister {U|T|C} 02:18, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
i too have the game. more info needs to be updated i guess. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.8.14.0 (talkcontribs)

Ed?

[edit]

Who is the character designer? Does anyone else think the main dude in the ads and commercials looks a LOT like Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist?

The talk page is used for discussion of the article, not general discussion of Spectrobes. See WP:TALK for more information.--kenobi.zero 08:43, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I might not have been clear about it but I was discussing the article. I was trying to say that we should find out who the character designer is and if there is a connection we should put it in the article like Akira Toriyama is in the Chrono Trigger one. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.69.230.146 (talk) 22:48, 5 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]
Oh. The character designers were all from Jupiter Studios I believe. So I am not sure if any of them worked on Full Metal Alchemist.--kenobi.zero 12:32, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's most likely a coincidence. The character designer for FMA is Yoshiyuki Ito, is it not? If that's the case, then I did a search, and he apparently has nothing to do with Spectrobes. Sincerely, Thrashmeister {U|T|C} 22:18, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? Take a look at the box art... Same hair, sword of similar design for a right hand (I assume that on the Spectrobes guy it's part of his suit). His face is similar in the boxart, and in the 2d animations for the TV commercial, and to a lesser extent the ads in gaming mags, the resemblance is even greater. It's too extreme for coincidence. So if it wasn't the same artist, it's a blatant ripoff. Wonder why Jupiter hasn't been sued. Not that we need to speculate on that here. Here we just need to find out why there are so many similarities, and explain them if the reason is in any way significant. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.69.230.146 (talk) 05:28, 8 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]
Sounds like someone's had a little too much sugar-coated cereal. Tony Myers 04:48, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spectrobes strategy guide

[edit]

Anyone want to know how to beat a certain part of the game? I can help!! I've beaten all seven bosses too, so I can give strategies for those. May 04, 2007 —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.182.178.220 (talk) 23:56, 4 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

This talk page is used for discussion of the article, not for providing strategies for playing the game. See WP:TALK for more information. In fact, read the top sentence of the talk page, in the yellow box. --kenobi.zero 05:52, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Sorry. I missed that. Thanks for the note! 67.182.178.220 02:48, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Typo in the article

[edit]

There is a typo in a paragraph under the Characters Section of the Spectrobes article. Someone spelled Jeena "Jenna". I fixed it before, but someone deleted my help. What's with that? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.182.178.220 (talk) 02:53, 6 May 2007 (UTC).67.182.178.220 02:54, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No Vulgar words?

[edit]

The article says that Sepctrobes does not allow vulgar words to be entered for names, but that's not true. I mean, you can't enter the word Sega, but that's about as far as it goes. I entered a couple swear words for names just to see what would happen, and it let me use them! Someone should mention that in the article. Sincerely, 67.182.178.220 16:52, 12 May 2007 (UTC) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.182.178.220 (talk) 16:51, 12 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

I just added "most vulgar words" into the article, so please don't delete it. Sincerely,Kevin 20 5 23 26 16:39, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changes made

[edit]

I made a change in the paragraph about Aldous being asleep in his capsule. It originally said that he had been asleep for decades, but I changed this to "over a decade", because it made him sound like he had been in the there for 20 years or more, but in the game it says he had been in the capsule for 16 years. Made th change to make it clearer and wanted to tell you why I did it so it didn't get deleted. Sincerely,67.182.178.220 21:33, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Battle Section

[edit]

I personally think someone should add a section about battling. It's a major part of the game that deserves to have its own section. Someone please work on adding that. Sincerely, Kevin 20 5 23 26 16:44, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Out of Order??

[edit]

If anyone is even interested in this talk page any more, I noticed that someone moved the Picture of Spectrobes down, leaving a blank space at the top, and they also got rid of the External Links section by mashing them together with the normal part. I assume this is vandalism and will revert it. Sincerely, Kevin 20 5 23 26 16:21, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Review Section?

[edit]

I came here looking for a review on the game, you know, what critics have said about it and stuff...but there is no section like this. The top has so little information...just that they considered the game a success.

I suggest including this review section. You know, what critics liked and didn't, etc. -Sukecchi (talk) 10:33, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay section?

[edit]

The article is clearly missing a gameplay section when comparing the Spectrobes article to the sequel's article, Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals. A gameplay section should be added and include further in depth material that discusses similar aspects of the game as the Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals article does. This would ideally include at minimum:

  • Encounter Battles
  • Overworld Exploration
  • Excavation
  • Fossil Revival
  • Spectrobes
  • Incubation Rooms
  • Prizmod Menu

These are the primary facets of the gameplay that should be noted in the main article. If a gameplay section is added, I will gladly provide captures of gameplay to provide pictures for the article.

Going to also add a problem with the article as a note here; the statistic in the main body of the article regarding 700,000 units has no citation, and is contradicted by the List of best-selling Nintendo DS video games article which claims it sold 1 million.
