Ethnic issues in ChinaRacism in China – It seems like ethnic issues in China are somehow overlapped together with racism in China. Putting the page "Ethnic issues" undermines racism that also exists in China, just like we pretend racism doesn't exist in the West or other nations. • Oppose. I don't understand this request. The article seems to be a comprehensive list of China's languages and ethnicities. The Beiyang government viewed China's population as consisting of "five races." These were ethnic Chinese, Mongols, Muslims, Manchus, and Tibetans. Since that time, the Manchus have died out. There is no tradition of calling any of the other groups listed "races." 3K008P9 (talk) 09:14, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But does China really care about implementing it? This is questionable given the racial problem in China. Chinese people, especially the Han ethnicity, don't practice a kind of racism we have seen in the West and it is unfamiliar if you have never been to China. Chinese history is full of racist incidents, but it has never been viewed properly like what we studied in the other countries including the West. • Support but with the caveat that it should be more accurately re-named as Ethnic discrimination and racism in China because some of the discrimination discussed therein is not solely of a racial nature. Amigao (talk) 03:19, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Horse Eye's Back: On the basis of this discussion and the ten sources I found, combined with the evidence of my personal experiences in mainland China, I have created a stub for a Racism in China page. As a first step, I attempted to document the most simple facts that are obviously true that everyone knows. Geographyinitiative (talk) 17:51, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Necessary?

[edit]

Although racism in China is a topic that ought to be covered, I'm not sure if it warrants its own article separate from "Ethnic issues in China" from which this article was derived. It should be noted that the definition of racism and racial discrimination is generally understood to include discrimination based on ethnicity rather than broad racial markers such as black, white, yellow, red, etc. and so I don't see the need to treat the two concepts as entirely different. In addition, there is already a Racism in Asia article with a section for China which already covers much of what this article details.

Personally, I think the content in this page should be folded under the "Racism in Asia" page or that it be re-merged back into "Ethnic issues in China" with the caveat that the article be renamed "Ethnic and racial issues in China".Dankmemes2 (talk) 05:41, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Racism in China is definitely a worthwhile article. The content from the Racism in Asia page related to China should be moved here and expanded. Ethnic issues in China does not cover the scope of racism in China because it is confined to relations between the 53 minorities and the Han. The title Ethnic and racial issues in China is denialism. Geographyinitiative (talk) 01:54, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dankmemes2: Hm, I agree. It looks redundant and undue as it is right now. Racism in Japan and the Philippines among others are only covered in Ethnic issues in Japan and Ethnic issues in the Philippines. Racism in Singapore only redirects to Race in Singapore. Racism in India (a pretty significant topic) is only covered in Ethnic relations in India (a nice, inoffensive title that reminds me of rainbows). Meanwhile, Wiki articles for racism in Myanmar, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, Mongolia, & Slovakia among others do not even exist yet.
I'm not sure what 'denialism' is supposed to signify here. An indication of double standards? I don't have a problem changing the original title of 'Ethnic issues in China' to whatever people want. Donkey Hot-day (talk) 11:03, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it is necessary. Racism in China is a severe issue, but it is poorly documented there. Ethnic issues in China only cover one part of it. ZaDoraemonzu (talk) 16:22, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Necessary, although I agree that 'ethnic issues in...' has some overlap. But at the end of the day, racism is the most important ethnic issue out there. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:08, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
