RFC: Using a hatnote

[edit]

Should this article have a hatnote? (CC) Tbhotch 02:22, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation

[edit]

In recent days, the 2001 song "Super Straight" by Australian alt-rock band Regurgitator, gained notoriety within Wikipedia because of a homonym neologism created by an Internet user in another website. The article was created on October 12, 2019, and until March 2, 2021 (the day before the neologism became globally known), or 507 days, the article got 538 views (in other words, one view per day). After that day, the article has received 46,951 views (as of March 17). No, the song and the neologism are not related and this is merely a coincidence. If you pay attention to the lyrics it is practically a criticism to those who are now self-referring to as "super straights".

Currently, Draft:Super straight (term) is in limbo, is it be relevant, will it ever be, will it be forgotten in a couple of years, or maybe will it be employed more and more by neo-nazis and wannabe trolls causing media to continue reporting about it? We don't know. What we know, is that this term a) is currently used in the real world, b) another article does cover the term, and c) something people tend to forget about, WP:HATNOTERULES.
