From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

When I was in 4th grade I created a game with a friend of mine named Bryan Heller that we called "thumbs". We then showed this game to our classmates in Fertile, Iowa. Our classmates liked the game and played it. This all happened in the fall of 1965. The game and its rules were essentially the same as the game that is now called "thumb wrestling". Until we created this game there was no such game in existance in our part of the world (north central Iowa).

If anyone can find a reference to thumb wrestling before the fall of 1965 then it will be clear that Bryan and I did not create this game. If there is no such prior reference then it is possible that it was created in Forest City, Iowa in the fall of 1965.

ITWA

[edit]

References to the ITWA are nonsense and do not belong in this article. The ITWA article itself has been deleted twice. It's a one-man "association" and lacks sufficient merit for inclusion in an encyclopedic article. Rklawton 15:26, 11 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Per Wikipedia's dispute resolution process (discuss:failed, wait:no results, request mediation:in progress, ...), I've requested mediation on this matter. Interested editors can review this process here: Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-11-29 ITWA. Rklawton 18:33, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actualy, it is notable. It's really famous. Maybe a one man founded it, maby he's a six year old, though the fact that he's nose-picking is not referenced and dear Rklawton, entering not referenced information is vandalism. Anyway, i think this argument got to far. Rkwalton. Calling this information "crap" when reverting and the "nose picking" are not phrases for an administrator. Come down, or you'll have to face a complain on how you use your administratorship status. Administratorship is not a right to insult people, thats the right to be blocked. Easy come, easy go, as far as we talk about administratorship. Log in, log out (talk) 18:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i'm not sure you actually bothered reading what he wrote. he did not call you six, nor did he call you nose picking. you're picking a fight over nothing. - Shadowsill (talk) 17:57, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
He didnt call me but he called the creator of the site, and thats not a way for an administrator talk. He also called a users edit "crap". Thats not a good behaviour. I'm not picking a fight. What i do say is i demand from an administrator to behave like a normal human. He doesnt have the right to talk to anyone like that. Thats not a talk about what should and what souldn't enter wikipedia, but about respect an administrator must give to editors. Log in, log out (talk) 18:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
oh woops you didn't sign your post, i thought that was slyder pilot talking, guess that goes to show everyone can read something wrong, so believe me i say this with no malice, but you are still reading it wrong, he didn't call -anyone- a nose picker or six. and as far as calling the edits 'crap', even admins are human, and when someone ignores repeated requests to stop, i think maybe harsher language is called for - Shadowsill (talk) 03:02, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now Slyder Pilot. I've heard about it, it is famous, but i'm sorry, Wikipedias rules are like that. There not always fair, but thats how they are. I support you entering the information, if you could bring here referenes, except the offical web-site, that this fedaration is notable. Links that shows that it's tournments and champions do recive a media cover. Log in, log out (talk) 09:29, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

i can't believe we're having this debate again. after dupes are removed, google shows a whopping 25 results for "international thumb wrestling association". shouldn't that clue you in on the fact that this is not a notable organization? i'm sure you love the organization, i'm sure you put up fliers around town for your tournaments, i'm sure you and your friends have a blast, and that's great, but that's not notable. there's a thumb wrestling club on campus where i am, but they don't belong on wikipedia. - Shadowsill (talk) 17:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I dont play in it, i just heard about them. I asked the user to being links, if he will give them, notable links, the material is referenced wnough to be on Wikipedia. If not, then not. What are you trying to argue with me about? What wrong have i said? If a user brings notable reliable links the material is in. Log in, log out (talk) 18:59, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed some of you have been trying to bring me back into the fold for this one, but I don't think any of the facts of the case have really changed much in two years. Anyway, it doesn't seem to have changed much. Sorry it took me so long to respond, I was on a month-long wikibreak. In any case, this seems to more or less have een resolved. Thanks for notifying me...Antimatter--talk-- 20:39, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A mediator arrives

[edit]

Hey guys, I'm representing the mediation cabal on this one. It looks lke the ITWA has already been shot down officially by the Wikipedia community. I truly hope that Slyder Pilot isn't just trying to gain awareness for his organization (see WP:NOT). I would also like to remind him that if he feels it is absolutely necessary to include the ITWA in the article, it should be written in by someone NOT involved with said organization, as that would violate NPOV. However, if there are more sources that would indicate encyclopedic relevance, perhaps that would change things. I want you guys to talk to me about this and hopefully we can reach an amicable solution. Thanks! Antimatter 22:21, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thumb Wrestling as Pinochle

[edit]

As a native of Edmond, Oklahoma, I have noticed in my traveling around the country that only in my region (Oklahoma-Texas) have folks heard "pinochle" refer to thumb wars / thumb wrestling. In fact, rarely does anyone in this region use the word "pinochle" in reference to the card game.

I am not sure where to get a source on this information, but I can tell you that it is very true from personal experience. Because it is an unusual fact and may really contribute to a holistic discussion on thumb wrestling, I hope that the Wikipedia community will accept this change.

If you have suggestions for me, let me know.

TylerScotWilliams 23:45, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My suggestion, then, is to not add unsourced information into a Wikipedia article. See also Wikipedia's policies regarding verifiability. Rklawton 23:49, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that may have found some vandalism and I deleted it.

[edit]

I deleted something that seems fictional, has been awaiting a source for about five months, and nobody has said one word about in talk. This is what i deleted: "The current champion of the World Thumb Wrestling Federation is Cecilia LaFrance from La France.[citation needed]"

Originally she was from the USA. (If it goes back in...) That seems more likely than her being from La France. Veecort (talk) 01:49, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
