Author

[edit]

IMHO to state that Watkins is an author is over-stating it. He evidently has been working with Lindsay who has done the bulk of the writing and research (see this comment here. One sentence on the publication should be enough and there is no need to create a section for it, as it is highly unlikely that Watkins will publish anything else. Tom Watkins (music manager)
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your input in the wikipedia page of Tom Watkins. We are trying to give the most detailed, most accurate information possible, backed up with references where available.
1) Your comment, which other bands did he manage? Tom Watkins created and managed many bands in the 1980s and 1990s including North & South, 2wo Third3 (check wikipedia page for confirmation of this), Faith, Hope & Charity and others. To say "he managed PSB, East 17 and Bros among others" is therefore correct.
2) Your comment that one book does not make an author. Please check the definition of author on wikipedia: an author is "the person who originated or gave existence to anything ... a published author refers to an author (especially but not necessarily of books) whose work has been independently accepted for publication by a reputable publisher".
Tom Watkins co-wrote this book with Matthew Lindsay (he did not publish it as you state, it was published by Virgin Books / Ebury Press nor did he use a ghost writer). All the information in the book originated from him, he is a published author.
3) Your comment that the page relies too heavily on references to the autobiography. Please check the definition of references on Wikipedia: information must be verifiable, i.e. comes from a reliable source, the source material must have been published.
The autobiography is published by Virgin Books / Ebury Press and is therefore a verifiable, reliable source. The information in his Wikipedia page is important and relevant, the only references we have are from the autobiography which was thoroughly sourced and checked by the legal department at Virgin Books / Ebury Press - as all autobiographies are.
We are more than happy to discuss this with you further if you like.
Thank you for your contribution. Kukani
The key here is that it needs to be a reliable third-party source. Without direct access to the book, that is difficult to judge. It would be useful to add some reviews of the book. From the tone of the above, it appears that you perhaps have some connection to Watkins or the publishing house. It would be helpful if you would state what this relationship is. Dear Sir,
Thank you for your reply.
Your assumptions are incorrect.
1) it is highly unlikely that Watkins will publish anything else.
Can you please supply verifiable references to this statement? We are aware that Watkins is in talks to write a second biography, (the first does not bring the reader up to date) and a factual book based on specific life events.
2) Author is over-stating.
Watkins is a published author as defined in Wikipedia and ODE. This is a fact, it is not over-stating. Watkins authorship is separate to any other career / life activity. Details do not belong in or relate to any other Wikipedia section.
3) Without direct access to the book, that is difficult to judge.
The book is published today, 7-7-16 in hard back and kindle and is readily available to anyone to check the details on Wikipedia that are referenced to the book.
4) It would be useful to add some reviews of the book.
The book is published today, 7-7-16 therefore no other reviews are available as yet. Once reviews become available they will be referenced on the Wikipedia page.
When assessing Wikipedia pages, we find it best practice not to make assumptions unless those assumptions are verifiably correct.
Thank you Kukani
