Recommendation

[edit]

When NC 44 is decommissioned a second time in favor of US 70 Bypass, I recommend keeping this page and banner it as US 70 Bypass going forward. There is enough material to keep this separate from the other bannered US 70 routes. Should only take a few redirect changes and former NC 44 will be shifted to the history section. If anyone has an opinion, please share. --WashuOtaku (talk) 22:29, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So when is the highway decommissioned? It does seem like a lot to add to the other article, but if there is no such highway, there shouldn't be an article with the title, but a redirect to either a section or a US 70 Bypass article. I don't know how this is supposed to work, but it doesn't seem like an important enough highway for its own article. Although if it were an interstate with a 3-digit number, yes, it would be.
And then we have the statement in the News & Observer that the whole highway will be called Interstate 42.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:38, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote that comment two months before legislation passed on making the route an interstate. I don't think we can jump over to Interstate 42 just yet because nothing is signed yet, so I still believe we should go with the original proposal I gave is to leave the article as its own but as U.S. Route 70 Bypass (Goldsboro, North Carolina). I don't recommend incorporating it with U.S. Route 70 in North Carolina, because U.S. Route 70 did not change; Goldsboro now has US 70, US 70 Business and US 70 Bypass. I would believe NC 44 is now decommissioned as of the opening of the final section of the bypass, but NCDOT has not posted official documents on that just yet (might be a month or two).
I see the progression of this article going as followed: North Carolina Highway 44 --> U.S. Route 70 Bypass (Goldsboro, North Carolina) --> Interstate 42. --WashuOtaku (talk) 18:29, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose you know best.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:28, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
And I see the page has been moved. So I guess this is an acceptable article.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:30, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 20 March 2022

Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved for now. Consensus is to wait until the road is officially designated I-42 before making the move. Consider it a non-controversial move once the change is implemented. (closed by non-admin page mover) Calidum 16:06, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

U.S. Route 70 Bypass (Goldsboro, North Carolina)Interstate 42 – Federal Highway Administation has designated this highway as interstate 42 — Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:56, 20 March 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Adumbrativus (talk) 06:35, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This change also includes Clayton Bypass in Johnston County, North Carolina.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:57, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support — Everything in this article would be utilized by I-42. --WashuOtaku (talk) 19:20, 20 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I support it. We should wait until they designate the highway as Interstate 42. Cwater1 (talk) 01:46, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cwater1 are you agreeing with Zzyzx11?— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 14:38, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree with Zzyzx11. We should wait until I-42 is designated to make this article named Interstate 42. Cwater1 (talk) 17:33, 24 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wait until signage is on the ground. Right now its a "hidden" designation, and we should treat it like we do other such unsigned interstates, such as I-595 (MD) and others. --Jayron32 13:44, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

General Discussion about I-42

[edit]

I understand that consensus on the issue is too early but I would like to offer a different opinion. Reading between the lines, it now seems that there're two different article which claim to be the I-42, this article and U.S. Route 70 in North Carolina. The Interstate was also designated by the FAST Act which means that it is a high propriety corridor like I-87 which has its own article. All in all, I believe the split should be done soon and us waiting for this long after the Goldsboro Bypass was officially designated as I-42 is just now for the sake of waiting. There is a draft article for I-42. Cwater1 (talk) 20:54, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Here's a link for other readers. I reiterate that that draft should moved to Interstate 42 when the time is right. It should not be pasted here and this article should not be moved to Interstate 42.  AjaxSmack  02:03, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just rename this article Interstate 42 or make a new clean article. This article does cover a lot. Make the Interstate 42 draft redirect to this when the time is right. I'm assuming U.S. Route 70 Bypass (Goldsboro, North Carolina) will be replaced with I-42. Cwater1 (talk) 02:05, 2 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Old bypass

[edit]

Why in the "History" section is there no mention of the old 1957 US 70 bypass of Goldsboro? Just wondering. (Or did I miss it?) dr-t 20:18, 16 September 2023 (UTC) dr-t 20:18, 16 September 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dr-t (talkcontribs)

This article is specific to this particular U.S. Route 70 Bypass, especially since it will eventually become I-42. As for any other special routes of US 70, they would be found here. I personally am not familiar with a 1957 route, but if I had to guess then that is the current US 70 route through Goldsboro, which has not changed. --WashuOtaku (talk) 21:09, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
