Armenian List of Azerbaijani control
[edit]@AntonSamuel: Hello. I've inspected the list given by Armenian government about villages under Azerbaijani control and I found the name "Акнаберд" (Aknaberd) under the Shaumyan Rayon list. Considering that there is no Aknaberd anywhere else in the NKR-control, it makes me think that it refers to this village. I also questioned why it was given as Shaumyan Rayon and not Martakert, but I discovered that this village is often (mistakenly?) marked as Shaumyan region in most armenian media (including the Armenian Wikipedia). Here's a Twitter geo-locator explaining it further: Link. What do you think? — CuriousGolden (T·C) 10:10, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- @CuriousGolden: Hey, I've been trying to clear up the wikipages and list of settlements in Artsakh and the Armenian names that are in use for the localities to get a better overall picture of the situation - which villages are being evacuated and how big the population is, but there's still a long way to go with regard to the Shahumyan and Kashatagh provinces. There are many (especially) smaller villages and localities that share names with other villages in Armenia and Artsakh. However, that this village would have been evacuated/turned over is highly unlikely and I haven't seen any reports suggesting that since its part of the former NKAO and was not captured by Azerbaijan during the conflict, so the list most probably refers to "another" Akanaberd. If this area was marked for evacuation that would represent a major displacement as the area around the Sarsang Reservoir is one of the more densely populated in Nagorno-Karabakh. - Agree that it is probably another village. Though the position of Russian posts corresponding to being outside this village does make me a bit confused about this. Regardless, we should probably wait until things are clearer to do any change. — CuriousGolden (T·C) 10:25, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- So I did some more research and it seems that it might actually be the same village, and the village for some reason may have been administered as part of the Shahumyan Province. However, the inclusion of it on the list (if it is indeed the same village) may have been an oversight, and I found at least one major Armenian news outlet denying its evacuation in contrast with the other villages in the Shahumyan Province since Akanaberd was part of the former NKAO Martakert District: [1] The issue was also raised elsewhere in Armenian media today: [2] Someone made this map based on the list of captured/evacuated settlements and can be helpful in general: [3] AntonSamuel (talk) 11:41, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- That is very interesting. Only ways I can think of Umudlu being AZ-control is either Azerbaijan advanced from Murovdagh until Umudlu or the village was some kind of exclave of the neighbouring districts. — CuriousGolden (T·C) 12:05, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

The mayor of the town has clarified that the village will not be evacuated, that its inclusion on the list was a mistake and urging inhabitants to return to the village: [4] [5] AntonSamuel (talk) 12:47, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
