Wrong etymology
[edit]In Latin, it's not only a "whole", it's a community, a guild, a corporation. See Lewis & Short. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.91.51.235 (talk • contribs) 06:41, November 25, 2019 (UTC)
Edit warring to change the "oldest university in the world"
[edit]Owais Al Qarni has begun an edit war to change the lede of this article to name the University of al-Qarawiyyin the "oldest university in the world." This is cited primarily to the Guinness World Records. This has been discussed many times in this Talk page (those discussions have all been archived; you can easily view and search them using the box at the top of this Talk page) and this editor has provided no new evidence or even the courtesy of a discussion before beginning this edit war. Suggested new section on Number of Universities / by country and globally?
[edit]I came to this page looking for the Number of Universities (and students) / by country and globally. I realise given the significant differences in what different countries count as a University it could never be exact. Could the data from the global rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Times Higher Education (THE) and Shanghai Ranking Consultancy (the Academic Ranking of World Universities; ARWU) form a start? or am I being blind and missing the data on this or another page?
