Venezuelan immigration to Mexico → Venezuelan Mexican – Query "Thank you for responding, but that wasn't really what I was asking about. Do you know what I should do to find the reasoning for the naming convention? Where should I ask my questions? If it's on the talk pages, how do I get a response quickly? Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. "Venezuelan Mexicans": 48 GHits. "Venezuelan Mexican": 4,420 GHits but all the ones I can see are for bilateral relations or lists of countries in which Venezuela & Mexico appear next to each other, or a Venezuelan/Mexican fusion restaurant in Texas, not about Venezuelans & their descendants in Mexico. "Venezuelans in Mexico": 2,860 GHits. Similar in Spanish: "venezolano mexicanos": 47 GHits, "venezolano mexicano": 2,430 GHits (same caveats as in English), "venezolanos en México": 172,000 GHits. Whether or not the word "immigration" belongs in the title, "Venezuelan Mexican(s)" is clearly not the common name. 58.176.246.42 (talk) 02:25, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- I do support the eventual move of this page, but my real concern was over pages where descendants far outnumber recent immigrants and as a result the form "XXXX-Mexican" is much more common (e.g. Chinese Mexicans or Lebanese Mexicans). The term 'Venezuelan Mexican' and its Spanish equivalent are not common because (as you can see from the graph) Venezuelans are a very recent immigrant group. Currently, the term is mostly used when referring to specific individuals. Such as 'venezolano-mexicano' activist Gustavo Tovar Arroyo. AuroralColibri (talk) 22:25, 9 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Neither Venezuela nor Mexico are English-speaking localities. Therefore we should not deliberately use highly ambiguous titles that depend on what dialect of English you speak to mean opposite definitions. "Venezuelan Mexican" can mean Venezuelans in Mexico or Mexicans in Venezuela. Opposite meanings, so highly confused. -- 70.51.202.183 (talk) 05:17, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
