Brahmin or Khatri?

[edit]

Are Punjabi 'Vermas' Brahmins or Khatris?

Hi my question is are vermas come into which category i mean is it necessary they come in BC category

ANSWER:

Hiii dear,

Verma is the surname used by people of many communities viz. sunar, jatt,Gujjar etc.but verma symbolises Sunar(Swarnkar) Community who belong to OBC class according to the list provided by Govt of India..Jats can put the same surname.Sometimes people of kayasth community also use verma as their surname but they belong to general catagory..Brahmins and Khatris never ever use Verma surname.

Merge

[edit]

I have boldly merged Verma into Varma. The former article acknowledged "Varma" as being an alternate version, and the latter article has far more content and no worse sourcing. There is no point in us having two articles that are effectively duplicating content/sources/explanations etc. That said, Varma needs some work, just as Verma did - sources & decent copyediting would be a good thing, and finding a way to reduce the repetitive use of "kshatriya" would be an absolute bonus. - Sitush (talk) 21:20, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
