British Victorian Houses

[edit]

The pictures in this article are not typical British Victorian houses. They typically have welsh slate rooves, sash windows and most characteristically of all are built from red or almost brown brick, very few houses or buildings in Britain (and I think I can be safe in saying most of Western Europe with the exception of Scandinavian countries and some parts of Germany) are made from wood. Could anyone get a picture of a redbrick house up?

They also typically come in several sizes and designs. There are millions of 2 bedroom and three bedroom brick terraced houses, two, three or four bedroomed semidetacheds from small to large in the UK. Then the four or more bedroomed detached - still hugely popular and expensive. They also come in stone where that was easily available. I'll see if I can find some photos. How about this sort of thing? (I haven't checked the exact building dates - really not sure about those stone ones! or Conan-Doyles)).:

Fainites barley 21:56, 15 March 2008 (UTC) These are all good examples of Victorian houses. would someone be able to submit some information on the main page about victorian archtecture in Britain which is where the place and age and architecture origionated from in the first place and where there are many more examples of victorian architecture. the article is very US centred and there is nothing on there about British victorian architecture that need to be changed immediatly.[reply]

Be bold and edit the page. Markb (talk) 11:29, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further to my comment on the talk page for Victorian Architecture it's disppointing that these articles are so US-centric when such rich Victorian style is in evidence across the UK and other former colonies. If my knowledge of Victorian architecture was more than just rudimentary I would be happy to add content. As it is, I would be happpy to refine and shape any content that is added :) --John Gibbard (talk) 08:48, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I hope my recent edit goes some way to balancing this out.Finereach (talk) 07:21, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
