Name

[edit]

Vivian Ho has a full name - Ho Pok Yan. Vivian is her name widely used in her creations, therfore Vivian Ho is the most well known name of her. Therefore I chose Vivian Ho as the name of the page. However, since 'Ho Pok Yan' is also seen in Chinese media, I have included this in the article, together with her styled name 'Vvn Ho'. Thwong86 (talk) 16:09, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for creating this page

[edit]

This page is created to a renowned hong kong female artist, which has influence in the hong kong art industry. Thwong86 (talk) 05:52, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

She is renowned for her violence aesthetic, which is rarely seen in Hong Kong. Her piece has a very well-received commercial success. Thwong86 (talk) 16:09, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

We are university students who participated in the 3rd Annual Art and Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon activity. According to the activity, this page is created to add some descriptions and informations of the asian artist. Since they are artist from asian, the cites will be written in Chinese. All the information will be cited to prove the information. It is not a advertising and please be neutral the read the information.Phchan56 (talk) 16:41, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • It's a great program, and this could have been divulged long ago. An administrator noticed the edit history of the article, and has protected it from your edits and those of your classmates for the next several days. If the issues continue later, I'll request a longer lock on the article. I spent a lot of time attempting to explain the problems here yesterday, and it doesn't seem to have gotten through. Please read Wikipedia's guidelines if you or your classmates intend to edit here again. Creating a biography on academic assignment can be a constructive endeavor, but it is not a license for sloppy scholarship. 2601:188:0:ABE6:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 17:03, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

List of exhibitions

[edit]

The list of exhibition is retrieved from media coverage and from her official website. Thwong86 (talk) 16:09, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Group exhibition list is needed as she has exhibitied her work in many overseas important exhibition, where only few Hong Kong female artist has this achievement. It is deleted by wikipedian but I insist that it is needed for this page. Thwong86 (talk) 16:22, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the group exhibition list should be kept, since the number of exhibition equals the achievements of a new born artist. This page is aim to provide information of this new born artist,Vvn. So, it should be kept. And I feel no sense of Advertising in it. ThanksPhchan56 (talk) 16:29, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    • Thank you for your suggestion. May I know how do you quantify 'significant coverage'? It is rare that Hong Kong female artists, especially she is born in the 90s, can have their work exhibited in overseas art fair. It is a breakthrough in terms of Hong Kong's Art History. Also it is a prove to that she is fast growing in terms of notability around the world. Deleting the whole part of group exhibition list perhaps is not suitable for the case. I suggest to keep the column and to add some reliable source. Thwong86 (talk) 17:04, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
      • Unless she has been mentioned by several WP:RELIABLE sources as having been included in an exhibition that may have featured four or a hundred other artists, it's probably not worth noting in an encyclopedia. Are there multiple sources that call this "a breakthrough in terms of Hong Kong's Art History", or is it your interpretation? And 'fast growing in terms of worldwide notability' needs to be similarly sourced. We stick to properly referenced facts, and we don't publish resumes. The fact that you 'insist that it is needed for this page' underscores my concern that the article is being written by associates of the subject, in a non-objective manner. Please read our guidelines at WP:COI, and understand that conflict of interest must be divulged. Thanks, 2601:188:0:ABE6:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 17:15, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
      • It would be a mistake to imply that the article's sole problem is in the listing of group shows--promotional tone seeps into everything here, including the brochure-like descriptions of solo shows and lists of media coverage. I understand that someone is trying to establish notability, but so often the strain of doing so is all too apparent. 2601:188:0:ABE6:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 17:20, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the answers of your questions can be simply found on the cites. Please read carefully.Thank you for your hard work.Phchan56 (talk) 17:34, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

        • I understand, thank you for you suggestion. This is, however, edited by a student who has a non-profiting purpose and is trying to note this well known artist in an encyclopedia for public interest, and is totally in involved in a COI. Is there a way that I can reveal my identity to wiki comunity? And In fact there are multiple reliable sources supporting but is written in Chinese language. May I know how do I resolve the reliability issue if the sources are seemingly incomprehensible by English readers? Thanks. Thwong86 (talk) 17:46, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, the language barrier is problematic, but not a serious obstacle, especially if other experienced editors can read the dialect. No, you do not need to reveal your identity, only divulge if there's a conflict of interest. The student show would be notable if she received significant coverage for her inclusion therein--I've repeated this a few times--otherwise it's not. And again, the listing of group shows is merely a reflection of the more pervasive issues here in tone. It's difficult for an objective editor to bring this to an enecyclopedic level when a group of WP:SPA contributors are exercising control. 2601:188:0:ABE6:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 17:52, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Parenthetically, what new editors often don't realize is that puffing up a biography in a heavy-handed, if well-meaning way, doesn't look very good for the subject. An uninvolved reader who comes across this, as I did, can tell pretty quickly when an article is promotional, and dismisses the subject as a result. The fact is, she's notable, but the current version undermines this. 2601:188:0:ABE6:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 17:56, 5 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Biography as school assignment

[edit]

For some reason, it took any number of reversions, suggestions and level three to four warnings before someone copped to the real reason this was written by a group of associated contributors: [1]. Students working on a school assignment. 2601:188:0:ABE6:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 15:23, 6 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vivian Ho Pok-yan[1][2] (何博欣) (often styled as 'Vvn' Ho) is a Hong Kong painter and illustrator. She graduated from Wesleyan University in Connecticut in 2012, majoring in Studio Arts and Economics; her latest solo exhibition, called “We Could Start Over,” was held at the Artify Gallery in Hong Kong.[3][2][4] Ho has received generally positive reviews, and Camilla Hewitson, director of the Affordable Art Fair (Hong Kong) in 2014, described Ho as an important new-generation artist.[5]
