Later TV Guide listings

[edit]

I have a Western Illinois TV Guide from September 1971, and WJJY was definitely still broadcasting on the 24th. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.28.176.197 (talk) 14:21, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Or at least someone though they'd still be broadcasting that week by the time TV Guide went to press. I think TV Guide had pretty good local connections at the time; the local section editors would know if WJJY was already off the air. September 1971 is a lot longer than the April 1971 the (unsourced) claim in the article says, isn't it? What is the next issue you have, that no longer has WJJY? --Closeapple (talk) 00:52, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have two library editions for W. Ill; July-Sept 1971 and Oct-Dec 1972. WJJY is not listed in the '72 listings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.28.176.197 (talk) 18:12, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From Facebook, here's an ad for ABC's Saturday Morning line-up, sourced from the Western Illinois edition, which had channel 14 listed among the other stations:

Per article in the Jacksonville (IL) Journal, September 16, 1971 (p. 30), WJJY-TV went dark at the end of the September 15 broadcast day. The decision was probably made after that issue of TV Guide had closed for publication, which explains listings/ABC ads for the 24th.
