In the first example, is there any need for the first three lines where the 'tty' command is demonstrated? It seems to have no relation to the article and I would suggest it be removed. Thecoshman (talk) 09:49, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is related. See 'mesg(1)'. 164.119.6.35 (talk) 20:44, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a relation between Unix's wall, and the "wall" on Facebook and some other social networking sites (such as fruhead.com) - a forum for public messages?

I tweeted that EXACT thing (almost) about 2 minutes ago, but you beat me too it!
"mshenrick: is it just me, or does the #facebook write on wall anything to do with the unix / linux commands write and wall?"
the developers may have used unix/linux and put in a subtle nod to it writing on a wall!

Is it related to Larry Wall? --71.106.173.110 (talk) 19:41, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Examples here are not portable among UNIX shells. Please, try to use Bourne Shell (/bin/sh) compatible examples. The herestring and the !$ are only valid in some situations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.104.48.6 (talk) 05:13, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
