This article should redirect to "Herpetic Whitlow"

In current medical usage, a whitlow is not a felon, nor is it an infection of the pulp of the fingertip. This is indeed straight from Dorland's; however, this is archaic usage. Whitlow now only describes herpetic whitlow, which is a skin lesion. Melanotic whitlow is an archaic term replaced by more specific diagnoses such as melanoma or melanychia.

Wrong Picture

[edit]

That picture isn't a whitlow, either, it's a basal paronychia. A whitlow/felon is in the PAD of the fingertip. -DrGaellon (talk | contribs) 05:09, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

a whitlow, a felon, and a paronychia are three different things and are treated in different ways — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.54.15 (talk) 19:36, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How does a Whitlow differ from Felon (skin)?

[edit]

And why is it called a "whitlow" - named for somebody? LCS check (talk) 16:31, 5 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
