Date of death

[edit]

I need to check his date of death again. Berry says: 27-4-1967 Clapperton: 27-9-1967

Not a common farmer

[edit]

Responding to Dick Bos's request to review the English, the sentence "Douglas Cook has never been a common farmer" implies he is still something, and so still alive. Plain English would be "Douglas Cook was never a common farmer" but that has weaknesses, at least:

  • seems not WP:NPOV,
  • implies "a common farmer" is a bad thing to be, possibly invoking a negative meaning of the word common.

Perhaps "Douglas Cook did not see himself as an ordinary farmer", though that's just what the next sentence says, and could be left out; I'd tend to drop the the sentence and change the heading to "Not an ordinary farmer'.

Interesting, though. Society is the less if we forget such characters, and IMO Wikipedia is a good place to remember them.
