Farquhar's contributions to Singapore

What do you mean what are his contributions to Singapore? While Raffles founded Singapore, Farquhar was the first administrator of the nascent colony. Granted, he did not entirely get along with Raffles, but he ran the colony in Raffles' absence during the first years and kept it orderly and out of the hands of the Dutch. Raffles came in after for sweeping changes, but Farquhar was operating on the most minimal of resources and set an example for the salutary neglect that Singapore was administered under for years to come. Farquhar cannot have been born both near Aberdeen and in Perth. This http://www.geo.ed.ac.uk/scotgaz/people/famousfirst3226.html indicates that he was born in Newhall, a few miles south of Aberdeen. — IanHH 16:13, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Date of death?

[edit]

Article gives as dates of death both 11th and 13th. Which one is it? With google I find mostly 11th...--Nedergard (talk) 07:33, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Infopedia Singapore says 11th and I am inclined to believe them. I'll change it.--Nedergard (talk) 07:54, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
