slight mods
[edit]1) Added relationship between M54 and M70 (the latter was pretty much the same as the former altered to allow scope mounting).
2) Removed .308 Winchester (not an original chambering; it wasn't invented until the 1950s)
3) first commercially successful bolt-action -> centerfire bolt action; the very successful Model 52 bolt-action target rifle in .22LR had been around since 1920. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Solicitr (talk • contribs) 13:20, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Model 54 Winchester
[edit]As the owner of a Model 54 30-06 long barrel, I have the following: according to Winchester's own web site by serial number, mine was made in 1939 even though you said it was discontinued in 1936 (I know, picky, picky). Also, the magazine, is not detachable, you have to load the rounds from the top with the bolt pulled back. And yes, it is difficult to put a scope on one: if you do, you will loose the safety feature. And yes, it does have a heavy trigger pull compared to a Model 70. Mine has the original adjustable (windage and elevation) peep site on it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C56:6700:7430:D0CC:1096:6733:FCA1 (talk) 21:38, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
