Geology and Geological History of the Witwatersrand Basin needed

[edit]

Since this is an unashamedly geological subject, I believe more detail about the basin's geology and its origins need to be spelled out in some detail. I have just rewritten the the geology of the Witwatersrand, and its geological origin, much of which would be appropriate here. I will edit what I have written in the Witwatersrand article, and copy it into here. There will be a fair degree of duplication, but if that is acknowledged in both articles, it is an acceptable Wikipedia practice. If I could contact the original author of this article I would have liked to discuss it with that author.

If no one responds to these comments, I will make the changes; which can always be undone if they prove to be unacceptable, or inappropriate, or improvable.Oggmus (talk) 14:09, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article re-written

[edit]

As indicated above I have re-written the article to include much needed information about the structure of the basin, its geological origins etc. I have moved the table of Gold Earning up to 1910 to the History section of the Witwatersrand article, from which I copied and pasted a fair amount text (suitably edited) into this article. So there is a considerable degree of overlap between these two articles, but hopefully not to the degree that anyone would get bored reading the two (I hope!) The overlap is inevitable as the geology and geological history of the part (Witwatersrand) is the same as that of the whole (the Witwatersrand Basin).

If this revision was premature, or ill-conceived, or inaccurate, then it is easy to revert to the previous version, or introduce a new set of revisions.Oggmus (talk) 15:22, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merger with Witwatersrand

[edit]

There seems to be considerable overlap between the articles. It's hard to see why there is a need for a copy-paste and two nearly identical articles.13:22, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
