I just amended the lede which showed Woman's Exchange Movement to add "(or Women's Exchange Movement)" without any supporting source. I noticed that this list-article included "Christian Woman's Exchange" in New Orleans while I thought the target of a redirect was instead the "Christian Women's Exchange", linked also from Gallier House. However it seems I was mistaken and all the usages in those articles used "Woman's".
However, there remain multiple occurrences in this list-article, by previous editors not me, of "Women's" or "Women's Exchange", including mentioning and linking to the prominent Women's Educational and Industrial Union in Boston, the usage of section title "Select list of 19th-century Women's Exchanges", item of "Women's Work and Art Exchange" in Morristown, New Jersey, and a footnote to this article in Brooklyn Eagle which uses "Women's Exchange" in its title.
Anyhow I am coming from some experience writing about clubs in List of women's clubs, which definitely do vary a lot in their usage of Woman vs. Women. I just assume the same variation in usage is widely present for the Exchange Movement. Please feel free to amend or remove my change, especially if you are actually familiar enough with the extent of variation here to know better. --Doncram (talk) 21:12, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Doncram, Nice to see you here at the Woman's Exchange Movement page! It was me that named the page Woman's Exchange as opposed to Women's Exchange. My main resource is Kathleen Waters Sander's The Business of Charity: The Woman's Exchange Movement, 1832–1900. There was also an existing category Woman's Exchange movement. And a listing on Encyclopedia.com for "Woman's Exchange". I transcribed the list of Women's Exchanges from one of Sander's appendices, which uses the term "Women's Exchanges". So, like Woman's clubs, the singular and plural are used, with no consistency. Thanks for working on the New Orleans exchange link. I plan to work on the article for the Philadelphia Ladies' Depository, which I think should be named "Ladies' Depository (Philadelphia)", judging by how it turns up in google. That convention could be used for more exchanges as the articles get written. Example "Women's Industrial Exchange (Los Angeles)" etc. What do you think of that idea? Or should it be kept more like the Woman's clubs "Los Angeles Women's Industrial Exchange"? WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 02:25, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
