Boundaries
[edit]Hi Tuiniman, I see you have created much of the content of the Woolston article. I'm currently going through all the suburb articles and tidy them up a bit, give them structure, introduce references, treat bare URLs with cite templates etc. Thanks for all your good work! One thing that is tricky in Christchurch is to nail down the boundaries for each suburb, as they are not defined anywhere. Would you (or anybody else, really) mind having a go at stating here what the boundary roads could be for Woolston? If the Christchurch community of Wikipedians comes to some consensus, we could get a map done that corresponds with the suburbs template. Schwede66 20:24, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I've had a look at boundaries myself. I've consulted Google Maps, Wikimapia and various maps on the Census website. What I conclude is that Census maps aren't useful at all (for Woolston, that is), as they cut across some obvious boundaries. Wikimapia appears to be based somewhat on the Census maps and there are big, undefined gaps towards Ferrymead, so that's not useful either. If I look at Google Maps, I get something that is somewhat bigger than what I would have thought of as Woolston, but here it is (going anti-clockwise):
- The Estuary (i.e. Tidal View is within Woolston)
- Linwood Avenue
Smith Street(According to the map, the borough went all the way to the Linwood / Aldwins intersection, meaning that Linwood Park is located in Woolston!)City Outfall Drain (runs along the southern boundary of Linwood Park)- Aldwins Road
- Ensors Road
- Lyttelton Rail Line
- Tunnel Road
- Heathcote River
- How does that sound? Schwede66 22:35, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- NZ Post may have maps? I didn't see anything on their website. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 01:32, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Well, what do you know? I found a map of the Woolston Borough. Click on the map to get to a zoomable link. How does one download high resolution maps when Flash Player is being used? Schwede66 02:06, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Would the boundaries be the same now as they where in 1911? -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 02:23, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Well, CCC doesn't define boundaries (maybe NZ Post does). Apart from the Linwood Park corner and some land at the extreme south end that wasn't developed back then, those boundaries match what Google Maps offered me. Schwede66 03:21, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
