Is the single cover http://991.com/newgallery//John-Farnham-Youre-The-Voice-225214.jpg ? Cowplopmorris 08:39, 1 February 2007 (UTC) This song is also performed by the German Country Band "Texas Lighning" ("Meanwhile, Back at the Golden Ranch", Track 12) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.89.154.234 (talk) 02:31, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

198What?

[edit]

I found another cover of this song: see (here) by John Miles (musician). But according to the Text Comments it should be found in the 1983 album Play On. This puzzled me because if it was recorded by Farnham in 1985 and published in 1987, when was it written by Thompson? For Whom? Was John Miles the first to record the song and noone knew it?

Maybe what I read on the Text Comments is just wrong, but I'd like to have a feedback about it... - 80.116.139.132 (talk) 11:08, 5 May 2008 (UTC) (er... εΔω unlogged.[reply]

I discovered the truth. I was mistaken... the dialogue says
Is this the same guy who sang "Song for you" in 1983?

Reply
Yes, it is from his album "Play On" from 1983.
What is he going to perform this year at the European NOTP tour I do not know yet...
Surely the reply means that Song for you was on Miles' 1983 album Play on. Sorry for the inconvenient. - εΔω 22:44, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Keith or Mitchel?

[edit]

The main text of this page says the song was co-written by Keith Reid; however the blurb to the right says Mitchel Reid. Which is correct?

The Keith Reid page doesn't mention this song, and there is no Mitchel Reid page, so I can't tell by the context which one is correct.

Pim 2 (talk) 14:38, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its Keith Reid (of Procul Harum).shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:10, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The first paragraph also says Daryl Braithwaite wrote it for John Farnham, which is also wrong.

Heart??

[edit]

Why is the bottom of the page referring to the band Heart? Trumpy (talk) 11:09, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heart covered the song, see the cover versions section. EHonkoop (talk) 05:48, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Video

[edit]

The music video for this appears to feature Derryn Hinch.[1] Or is it just a dead ringer? The woman playing his wife looks like it might be someone too. Worth a mention?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 07:41, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Six-and-a-half-years late: I've just added a paragraph on the music video. Yes, it includes Hinch (and his then-wife Jacki Weaver) as well as some musos. None of these are heard on the actual original recording.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:02, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

As per WP:NSONGS which says there should not separate articles for the same song. Richhoncho (talk) 14:33, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the fact that a note can be added on the cover by Alan Parsons, since it concerns the same song. I however disagree with the fact that the articles should be merged, since the article about the Alan Parsons cover is about the Single rather than about the Song. For that reason mention has been made about the Song You're the Voice being a cover on this Single. To solve this issue I've already started a discussion on Richhoncho's talking page. Nico.rikken (talk) 14:50, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Songs with notable cover versions are normally covered in one common article about the song and the cover versions." as per WP:NSONGS, hence the merge tag. Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 15:50, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Merge now completed in accordance with guidelines. Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:52, 21 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Message of the song

[edit]

This is an anti-war song with a strong message. This should be mentioned, including examples of occasions where it has been used because or its message. (https://genius.com/John-farnham-youre-the-voice-lyrics). Agnerf (talk) 20:30, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Thompson versions

[edit]

As for the World Liberty Concert:

I've compared the live video and the single superficially and to me it definitely sounds like the same vocal performance at least. Whereas the studio version from the "Very Best Live" album has a different vocal. Also, "White Dawn" is an instrumental!

There is also no mention at all of Chris' other versions such as the original demo or the other studio versions he made through the years. Jules TH 16 (talk) 09:54, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You’re the voice has been used in commercials

[edit]

The statement “Until then, Farnham and his management had not allowed the song to be used for a commercial.” is contradicted by the paragraphs immediately above describing its use in commercials. 193.119.127.169 (talk) 01:06, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ha ha yes, I actually meant to remove that after realising it was wrong, and shuffling the info about the commercial uses into that section, but then forgot after doing that! Thanks for spotting. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 02:33, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
