Tayfun Belet is a Turkish film director, screenwriter, producer and film editor.[1]
Biography
[edit]Belet was born into a family from Urfa/Siverek in Izmir. He attended high school at Fatma Saygun Anadolu Lisesi and continued on to Yaşar University on a full scholarship in the Radio, Cinema and Television Department.[citation needed] He then continued his masters degree at the same school and graduated from the Art and Design Program.[citation needed] Belet continued his academic career as a teacher in the same department.[citation needed]
He was influenced by Yılmaz Güney's movies in his early years and started filming short films when he was in high school.[citation needed] In 2006, before he started his directing career, he worked as a director assistant. Belet has been responsible for 10 documentary-cinema films and has also worked on commercials.[2]
He generally uses the themes of women, children and hope in his films, utilizing the traditional culture of the east and infusing it with the modern life of the west.[citation needed] He has been a part of the jury at film festivals.[citation needed] For the music in his films, he has worked with Erkin Koray, Hüsnü Şenlendirici, Cengiz Onural, İncesaz, Jah Wobble and Ömer Oral. He has edited and directed photography in his movies himself.[citation needed] Belet is also the owner of a company named Tabu Film Production.[3]
