Cave Church, Rsovci

[edit]

The bald Jesus in the church of Sts. Peter and Paul, Rsovci

Created by LordMilan85 (talk). Self nominated at 22:00, 1 August 2014 (UTC).

  • The article is new and long enough. The hook is not properly formatted because the section title of new article is bolded instead of the title of the article. Also, I don't think that there is anything hooky in this fresco painted on the northern interior wall of the church, so this part of the hook should probably be deleted. The source of the picture is copyrighted RTS portal (or more probably also copyrighted Vecernje Novosti newspaper), so the picture should not go with the hook. Taking all of this in consideration I propose alternative hook which I can pass:
  • ALT1: ... that Cave-Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in the village Rsovci, Serbia, has a fresco of a bald-headed Jesus?--Antidiskriminator (talk) 19:41, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
OK for ALT2.--Antidiskriminator (talk) 08:46, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Per DYK rules, the hook fact needs to be cited in the article. Also, the two quote/paragraphs under "Bald-headed Jesus" need cites. Yoninah (talk) 10:48, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
  • I had a quick run through, for more copyedits. So Bosnic is the source for the hook? That citation, just added by LordMilan85, is not really done properly, and it falls in the middle of the first quote, and I suppose it applies to the second one as well, but it's not there. The article isn't really very good either, I'm afraid, although it's still just long enough. But the references are poorly done as well. Anyway, I suppose this is really just a ping to the creator/nominator to say hey, it's not finished. Drmies (talk) 02:32, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Drmies, Yoninah, LordMilan85 hasn't edited on Wikipedia since August 27, when he made the most recent edits to the article and pinged me hoping for a review; that ping was his final edit to date. Given the caveats expressed by Drmies, is this ready to be a DYK hook, possibly a lead hook? I think it's up to you to decide at this point, since after three weeks it's beginning to look doubtful that there will be any more work on the article by its creator. (I did re-ping his talk page on September 16, but so far no response.) BlueMoonset (talk) 17:18, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Well, BlueMoonset, when you call I answer. I'm doing copyedits/cleanup, and then we'll see. I would like Yoninah to have a look as well. Certainly the hook is fine--I prefer ALT2. Drmies (talk) 17:35, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
  • We need a Serbian reader to see if this verifies the text in the last paragraph--and that paragraph desperately needs to be Englished. BTW, are we clear on the status of the image? Drmies (talk) 17:52, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
  • OK, I'm done with it. In its current state I do not want this on the front page, though a bald-headed Jesus would look great in our window. a. the status of the image needs to be resolved; b. the last paragraph is in really bad English and its validity is in doubt, given the problem with the reference--I don't want to use Google Translation and just mess around. (Can't cut this paragraph, since the article barely scrapes by on length.) It needs checking and rewriting. Same, really, with the blockquotes, which need checking--I can't AGF that the original publication, which appears to be in English, is so poorly written. Shame, since this is a great little church. Drmies (talk) 18:10, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Thanks, Drmies. I think we both wish this could be approved, but given your analysis of the article's current state, it's clear that the image is questionable, and the article itself needs major work in some places that has to be done by someone who can read the sources in the original language. If the nominator had stuck around, fixing everything could have been possible, but unfortunately the nomination was abandoned, and we can only do so much without the person who wrote it. It's time to close this. BlueMoonset (talk) 16:30, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
