Devanahalli pomelo

[edit]
  • ... that the Devanahalli Pomello said to be the largest in the world, is known in the west as pomelo (Citrus maxima), shaddock and batavia lemon?

Created by Nvvchar (talk). Self-nominated at 14:27, 2 February 2016 (UTC).

  • This article needs a copy-edit, because it is rife with spelling errors and grammatical inaccuracies. This problem is also present in the hook, which states that the size of a pomello (and not the pomello itself) is known under various names. One of these names is not mentioned specifically in the source (the Indian government PDF talks about Batavia lemons, but not batawana lemons). There is also close paraphrasing apparent, with the line "plants were collected at the department's biocentre in Hulimavu for propagation among the farmers." very closely resembling a line in the Times of India source. So even though the QPQ is done, the images are no copyvios and the article itself is new and long enough: the nominator has got his work cut out for him.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 20:36, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Amberrock. Thanks for the review. I have c/e to address issues raised in the above review. I have made small changes in the original hook itself. Please see. Nvvchar. 04:38, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
  • I hate to say it, but I'm not convinced this is good enough right now. I see a mixture of American and British English is used, and especially towards the end of the article the sentences get really short and stocky. Furthermore, in select sentences, the copyedit did not always improve the prose. The line "In a nursery run in Devanahalli organic farming method is adopted by grafting" did not become more understandable, arguably the opposite.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 11:53, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
  • Please see if further editing done by Rosiestep and me is acceptable. I suggest ALT 1 Hook ... that the Devanahalli Pomello is said to be the largest form of citrus in the world? Nvvchar. 02:20, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
  • I don't really like to do this, but I'm afraid I must conclude this article continues to be riddled with poor English. That continues to be a prohibitive hurdle for this DYK. My suggestion is: please enlist someone who is proficient in the English language to copyedit the article top to bottom.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 10:30, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
  • The last couple of days, Dthomsen8 and Jonesey95 have each tried to copyedit the article, trying to bring its prose in line with what is generally expected of Wikipedia articles. As I've already done three reviews of this piece, I think it'll be a healthy practice if someone else takes a look here too. I would like to add that if the new reviewer finds the prose still lacking, it will probably be time for a {{DYKno}}, as three consecutive {{DYK?no}} have already been placed on this nomination page.—♦♦ AMBER(ЯʘCK) 11:35, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
  • The reviewer won't be able to go beyond the prose, unfortunately, since the only hook has been struck. Nvvchar, can you please offer a new hook so any reviewer can also check that? Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:25, 5 March 2016 (UTC)
  • I suggest this ALT2 hook ... that the Devanahalli pomelo is grown only in and around Devanahalli; its fruit is said to be the largest form of citrus in the world?Nvvchar. 04:15, 6 March 2016 (UTC)
  • New enough; long enough; both parts of ALT3 (which is tighter than ALT2 but contains the same facts) are supported and directly cited. I have read the entire article and found it eminently readable: thanks to everyone who worked on it. I also did a copyvio comparison against all sources and found only one or two very minor similarities, which I rephrased. Image shown is uploaded by the photographer with appropriate license. QPQ was done. Mary Mark Ockerbloom (talk) 00:17, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
  • I've corrected the spelling to "Devanahalli pomelo", which matches both the actual article name and the primary spelling in the article, and struck the non-ALT3 hooks, which were not approved. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:44, 7 March 2016 (UTC)
