Malouma

Malouma
  • ... that before she became a Senator of Mauritania, Malouma (pictured singing) was censored for her songs, which promoted women's rights and challenged apartheid, and denied a permanent address?

I think we might slightly simplify this with:
  • ALT1: ... that before she became a Senator of Mauritania, Malouma (pictured singing) was censored for her songs, which promoted women's rights and challenged apartheid? --Ipigott (talk) 16:30, 24 January 2016 (UTC)>
  • Comment I prefer ALT1 too. Was she censored because of her songs, or were the songs themselves censored? It seems ambiguous. Edwardx (talk) 20:51, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Edwardx She was personally censored, denied a permanent address, banned from performing, but the songs were banned from being played within the country as well. Ambiguity is not a bad thing, will require people to read the article to find out, IMO. SusunW (talk) 16:03, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Thanks SusunW. I was only concerned if it was just the songs that were censored. Great article and hook, by the way. Edwardx (talk) 19:10, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
Substantial Good article, well sourced, in praiseworthy teamwork! Perhaps clarify in the article lead that traditional music means traditional Mauretanian music. I prefer the simpler ALT, raising enough interest. I hope to see the image on the Mainpage: expressive and licensed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:09, 30 January 2016 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt Thank you! I added "traditional Mauritanian music" as suggested to the lede. SusunW (talk) 00:02, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
