Template:Interrupted/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Purpose

[edit]

{{Interrupted/doc}} is used to identify the contributor of the upper fragment(s) of a comment that was broken up by a different contributor's insertion of text. This is useful when such an interruption has multiple replies. If the interruption is new and nobody has replied to it, remove it per WP:TPOC rather than using this template.

The existence of this template should not be construed as allowing the breaking up of other editor's comments; the policy on that is still WP:TPOC. This template is meant to be used to lessen the disruption in cases where removing the TPOC violation would disrupt the subsequent discussion.

Usage

[edit]

{{Interrupted|user name or IP|time, date}}

user name or IP
name or IP of user who left the comment which got interrupted.
time, date
UTC time and date stamp from edit history.

The time stamps in the edit history list for any talk page appear in UTC, or in the local time that is set in your preferences. If you did not adjust the time in your preferences, then the times in the edit history list are in UTC.

Talk page times should always be in UTC. So be sure to use UTC time when using this interrupted template. Adjust the time, if necessary, using the difference you designated between the server UTC time and local time. If this is too difficult to figure out, or you are in a hurry, then leave out the time, and only put in the date.

Examples

[edit]

With and without the time:

  • Typing: {{Interrupted|Example|21:31, 22 October 2024 (UTC)}}
will yield: Example 21:31, 22 October 2024 (UTC) — continues after insertion below
  • Typing: {{Interrupted|Example}}
will yield: Example — continues after insertion below
