This is a documentation subpage for Template:WikiProject Germany.
It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

This template is used on approximately 162,000 pages.
To avoid major disruption and server load, any changes should be tested in the template's /sandbox or /testcases subpages, or in your own user subpage. The tested changes can be added to this page in a single edit. Consider discussing changes on the talk page before implementing them.

Usage

The {{WikiProject Germany}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.

Article assessment parameters

class – valid values are fa, a, ga, b, c, start, stub, fl, list, na (case-insensitive). See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.

Project work parameters

attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
- This parameter populates Category:Germany articles needing attention.
imageneeded – set |imageneeded=yes if the article needs an image (other than a map).
- This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Germany.
- imagedetails (appears only if imageneeded is set to yes) - Additional details to describe the image that is requested.
mapneeded – set |mapneeded=yes if the article needs a map.
- This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested maps in Germany.
- mapdetails (appears only if "mapneeded" is set to yes) - Additional details to specify the kind of map information that is needed.
needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
- This parameter populates Category:Germany articles without infoboxes.
unref – set |unref=yes if the article lacks sufficient references and/or adequate inline citations.
- This parameter populates Category:Unreferenced Germany articles.

Taskforces

If the article subject is with the scope of a certain task force, then please include that task force's parameters in the template. For most of this template's taskforces, you can also assess the subject's importance to the task force.

The letter "I" in the taskforces' importance parameters |FooImp= are always capitalized. Please do not use lowercase "i".

GDR – set |GDR=yes if the article is supported by the GDR task force.
- This parameter populates Category:GDR task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:GDR articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
- GDRImp (only used if |GDR=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the GDR task force
  - This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:GDR articles by importance.
Hamburg – set |Hamburg=yes if the article is supported by the Hamburg task force.
- This parameter populates Category:Hamburg task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Hamburg articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
- HamburgImp (only used if |Hamburg=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Hamburg task force
  - This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Hamburg articles by importance.
HRE-taskforce – set |HRE-taskforce=yes if the article is supported by the Holy Roman Empire task force.
- This parameter populates Category:Holy Roman Empire task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Holy Roman Empire articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
- HREImp (only used if |HRE-taskforce=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Holy Roman Empire task force
  - This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Holy Roman Empire articles by importance.
Mainz – set |Mainz=yes if the article is supported by the Mainz task force.
- This parameter populates Category:Mainz task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Mainz articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
- MainzImp (only used if |Mainz=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within the Mainz task force
  - This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Mainz articles by importance.
Munich – set |Munich=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Munich.
- This parameter populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Munich articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
- MunichImp (only used if |Munich=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Munich
  - This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Munich articles by importance.
Prussia – set |Prussia=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Prussia.
- This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Prussia articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Prussia articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
Transport – set |Transport=yes if the article is supported by the German transportation task force.
- This parameter populates Category:German transportation task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:German transportation articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  - Notice that the German transportation task force does not use an importance assessment. Please remember that!

Template display formatting parameters

listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Johannes Althusius, use |listas=Althusius, Johannes so that the talk page will show up in the A's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories; similarly, for topics with titles beginning with an article such as "the" or "a" - e.g. for A Time to Love and a Time to Die, use |listas=Time to Love and a Time to Die, A so that the talk page will show up in the T's). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
