WikiProject COVID-19

[edit]

I've created WikiProject COVID-19 as a temporary or permanent WikiProject and invite editors to use this space for discussing ways to improve coverage of the ongoing 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. Please bring your ideas to the project/talk page. Stay safe, --Another Believer (Talk) 18:08, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discharged PUIs

[edit]

@Hariboneagle927: Good day! As of the of time writing this message, the DOH's COVID-19 case tracker has stopped reporting discharged PUIs and only reports active cases. I don't want to make any drastic change with this template but I think we should repurpose it somehow. What should we do about it? Thanks in advance and stay safe. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 04:20, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As the confirmed cases increase, the number of discharged PUIs becomes more irrelevant especially if they never been confirmed to have contracted the virus. I afraid even the case summary may have to be phased out too if the number of cases becomes too high. Good thing they began reporting by hospitals of admission though. We may have to simplify the table to just number of confirmed cases, deaths, and recoveries (of confirmed cases) also for easier management. Maybe include the number of PUIs by region as well as long as they are still reporting it. Also stay safe as well.Hariboneagle927 (talk) 04:31, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Maintenance

[edit]

@Hariboneagle927 and PatTag2659: I'm sorry for abandoning this template, may I ask you guys to help me maintain its stats and etc? I already set up the new format (based on Italy's table) and added some figures to it, but it needs to be updated. Once again, I'm so sorry and thank you in advance! Stay safe. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:07, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I will try my best to update the template. Thanks for setting up the new format. PatTag2659 (talk) 15:35, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I tried to repurpose the template since the DOH had stopped reporting data for PUIs (maybe because they're now focused to confirmed cases? Which is understandable in a way) —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:40, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Atikono1, PH 0447, Nickrds09, PatTag2659, Subwaymuncher, and Hariboneagle927: Requesting for help from you, my fellow Wikipedians! —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:54, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can't promise anything, but I'll check on this and update what I can on my free time. Despite the Luzon lockdown, I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home irl. Suggestion to those who could do the task ahead of me, could make the tables "live" one by one rather as a whole.Hariboneagle927 (talk)
I'll see what I can do. I'm not really the expert when it comes to tables/templates but I'll try my best.- SUBWAY 02:33, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try my best to help in updating as well. --Nickrds09 (Talk to me) 13:42, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Renzoy16: Where did you get the values here? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:34, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Which one? The number of admissions per hospital? I got it from data you've provided. Placed them in a google spreadsheet; and sorted and counted them per hospital.--AR E N Z O Y 1 6At a l k 12:54, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Broken charts from the DOH

[edit]

Good day (or evening) @Allenjambalaya:! How should we deal with the fluctuating data from the DOH? Are we just gonna update the entire table whenever an update comes out? This is kinda problematic because the data from "New Daily Cases" changes every single day. I was just wondering if you have some insights there, thank you! —hueman1 (talk contributions) 15:04, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@HueMan1: Hello! I agree it's problematic but I can deal with it. As long as local news outlets or reporters points out the changes (i.e. fluctations) and DOH releases an erratum during their daily updates or/and put them in their situationer report. I'll just deal with the data as it is presented.—Allenjambalaya (talk) 06:20, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Allenjambalaya: The DOH's COVID-19 Tracker changed again and now shows the 16th of January as day one of the pandemic in the Philippines. Are we gonna include this data to the table? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 01:42, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But I think they're still working on the site—I guess we'll have to wait... Otherwise we'll have to recount everything all over again. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 01:47, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@LSGH: What do you think about this? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 11:45, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Should we indicate the number of late cases?

[edit]

Since May 29, the DOH has been including the number of late cases in its daily reports. I do not know why they chose not to report the number of late cases just once, after all late cases in their backlog have been validated. Should we indicate this number in the graphs and in the tables? That could make the situation in the country more understandable for readers and editors outside the country. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 10:58, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@LSGH: I am not sure about this; are those even reliable? I guess we can make progression charts for testings and etc. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 02:01, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The data can be presented easily that way because they are readily available on their web pages. Perhaps begin with the active cases breakdown? The late cases could help to explain the change in the behavior of the charts. LSGH (talk) (contributions) 02:26, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@LSGH: I suggest including it to the Backlog section of the main article, because why not? It seems kinda out of place if we'd include it to the statistics section because it doesn't make sense. Well that's my opinion, feel free to suggest more options. I already made a draft chart on this template but with placeholder numbers. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:04, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@HueMan1: The chart for late cases can go in the backlog section since the context is already explained there. In the progression charts, we could add an additional line in the switchable graphs that would indicate the total number of fresh and late cases combined. That line would begin with data for May 29. The scarlet line would then indicate fresh cases only. How about a separate chart that would indicate fresh cases only? LSGH (talk) (contributions) 12:24, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DOH Data Drop delay

[edit]

Hello everyone. I can't update the daily regional cases yet since DOH hasn't uploaded their data since July 5. So you might see blanks on July 5 to July 7 even after the DOH resumes uploading their data starting today, tomorrow, or two days later.—Allenjambalaya (talk) 08:20, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jump in the number of recoveries and record number of daily confirmed cases

[edit]

From putting labels on the confirmed cases (i.e. "late" and "fresh") to modifying the classification of recovered patients (or finally conform to), DOH and IATF never fails to confuse (or amuse) the public.

33,931 recoveries in a day. From yesterday's 56,258 to 22,327.

Also, 3954 confirmed cases in a day! Was it because of an outbreak, more testing, or both?

And now DOH is also doing away from the daily briefing.

What's happening?

We need a lot of unpacking here.—Allenjambalaya (talk) 16:14, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alteration of data

[edit]

@Allenjambalaya: The DOH's data are getting altered every now and then, and it's getting annoying. I can't believe that they're still changing the data from March 2020 and still haven't got it corrected. What's the point of encoding the latest data on new cases per day if it's incomplete? —hueman1 (talk contributions) 02:20, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@HueMan1: On who decides on tinkering the stats, I hope someone in the local media has the courage to question these technical yet important details. For the meantime, we just deal with the incomplete details they provide the public. —Allenjambalaya (talk) 12:13, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

September 7, 2020 daily regional cases

[edit]

You might notice that this section is blank since I was not able to get the data yesterday (September 7, 2020, Monday) and I don't know how to get it when DOH's COVID-19 Tracker updated with the September 8, 2020 daily cases.—Allenjambalaya (talk) 11:31, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Allenjambalaya: It's very inconsistent. We could still use this site and mess with its filters. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 11:39, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Monthly cases

[edit]

@HueMan1: I saw the post of Case Bulletin #190 (September 20, 2020) of Newly reported deaths per region and month. Do you think it's a good idea to start posting them here or no? —Allenjambalaya (talk) 04:14, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Allenjambalaya: It's not a bad idea but I'm also considering making graphs (with new cases, recoveries, and deaths) for our regional COVID-19 pandemic articles. They have become pretty stale now, so I think it's about time to make some improvements with them. The problem here is the inconsistency of our sources, the government's COVID-19 Dashboard is currently unavailable and is usually outdated, and the health department's COVID-19 Tracker and Data Drop changes every single day and have some really weird figures. I could elaborate more of this (on why we should refrain from interpreting the data from that site) later soon. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 12:06, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if this spreadsheet would fix the problem. —hueman1 (talk contributions) 13:04, 23 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines by region

[edit]

I just found out yesterday that when you type in "Philippines COVID-19 cases" in Google search bar, the values of this table is supplied in the results but the last update was last October 28, 2020. It is not accurate since it's outdated. Sorry if I wasn't able to consult anyone but I just decided to deleted the table as I was trying to just remove the number of tested but due to my technical skills lacking, I cannot remove the columns or even merge columns without disrupting the form. Without the help of HueMan1 (talk · contribs), I think there would be someone to update the table. This might be temporary or for good. I am willing to maintain the regional daily cases in a daily basis in my personal spreadsheet though I cannot guarantee I can visit Wikipedia and edit on a daily basis too.—Allenjambalaya (talk) 13:49, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
