This template (Template:Discogs artist) was considered for deletion on 2012 December 7. The result of the discussion was "keep".

Usage[edit]

Unfortunately, the usage isn't documented. You have to add the code number from the discogs url to an id parameter. So for the first Magical Mystery Tour release at http://www.discogs.com/Beatles-Magical-Mystery-Tour/release/1850514, you would use {{Discogs release|id=1850514|type=album}}. However, I would recommend using the newer "master version" at {{Discogs master}}, which is properly documented. --JD554 (talk) 14:11, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I am writing about the same thing, i was just confused about the third field, which is useless (or not?), so the template to link to specific releases, not combined in masters (same example as as above) is {{Discogs release|id=1850514|name=Magical Mystery Tour (Capitol Records, MAL-2835)}} (E-Kartoffel (talk) 10:50, 8 May 2010 (UTC))[reply]

There is a lot of and longtime discussion about what actually is an album or a single in discogs, so I'd recommend to not include this information in the wikipedia-discogs templates (E-Kartoffel (talk) 10:57, 8 May 2010 (UTC)).[reply]

"release" option now works (and "id" too)[edit]

I've added the "release" parameter to the template (as third option; {{{1|{{{id|{{{release|}}}}}}}}}) and it now functions properly. I've also mantained the "id" parameter for retro-compatibility and added it to the template documentation. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 15:31, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pure URL option for citations[edit]

It would be useful for this family of templates to have an option pure_url=yes, just like Template:AllMusic has. That would allow the URL generated by this template to be used within citations.
