The long country chart only uses UNODC numbers. Anything else will be reverted. Please see the UNODC reference for the Global Study on Homicide. In the reference notes go to the UNODC Statistics Online link to find the very latest UNODC homicide rates. Timeshifter (talk) 22:02, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit template-protected}} template. Could also say "Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format.". Is there a consensus anywhere to only use that source? And what text is supposed to go into the editnotice? There is consensus. See the edit history of the article to see the many reversions of people adding non-UNODC numbers. The text is everything in my original post. --Timeshifter (talk) 21:56, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not involved with this article at all, but as a Template Editor I'm inclined to believe that there is consensus for some sort of editnotice to this effect. The article has included the phrase "Note. Only data from the UNODC source is used for this main table. Please do not add data from other sources." since at least November 2015, and it was included as a hidden comment in the article long before that (I'm not sure exactly how long, since WikiBlame doesn't seem to search commented out text). The fact that it has lasted in the article for that long seems to indicate that there is at least implicit consensus for it. However, I use the text and reference from the article:
Note: Only data from the UNODC source is used for the main table in this article.[1] Please do not add data from other sources.
^Global Study on Homicide 2013 (PDF full report). Published in April 2014, by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). See home page for Global Study on Homicide. It will link to latest version. See 10 April 2014 press release. See full report, and its methodological annex (pages 109ff) and statistical annex (pages 121ff) at the end of it. The statistical annex has detailed charts for homicide counts and rates by country with data from 2000–2012. Use the "rotate view" command in your PDF reader. Map 7.2 on page 112 is a world map showing the latest year available for homicide count for each country or territory. Page 21 states estimated total homicides of 437,000 worldwide. Figures 1.1 and 1.2 (pages 21 and 22) have exact rates and counts by regions. Figure 1.3 on page 23 is a bar chart of homicide rates for the subregions. Figure 1.16 on page 34 shows timeline graphs by subregion. UNODC Statistics Online has updated numbers, with some 2013 and 2014 data. See the homicide submenu of the Crime and Criminal Justice menu. Click on "Homicide counts and rates". Choose region or the whole world. Download the PDF or Excel files. Or run the report in your browser. Check the box to open in a new tab so that the table is created without the intrusive sidebar. It takes awhile to load, and there may be no indicator at first. Save the page to save future loading time. At the bottom of all is this: "Note: data were updated on 18 May 2016 and supersede data published in the Global Study on Homicide 2013".
Thanks for the banner. I added it to the article. Can you point me to a regular article with an edit notice in it? I want to see how it looks in both the source editor and the visual editor. --Timeshifter (talk) 18:51, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't the edit notice banner get much more attention in the source editor if there were a colored background? The goal is to get the attention of the editor. --Timeshifter (talk) 22:26, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The article has been in the current format since around 2012. With "UNODC" in the titles of the charts. See this 2012 revision. And there has been a note in the article about using only UNODC data since at least April 2015. See this April 2015 revision. I added a background color, and bold text, to the banner:
Note: only data from the UNODC source is used for the main table in the article. Data from other sources will be removed.
