Credits in image

[edit]

Is anyone opposed to a change in the wording of this image to include images that contain credits? I associate "digital watermarking" with credits that overlap the main subject of the image itself, as in Image:Visible digital watermarking.jpg. But I've been applying this tag to all images that contain credits, even if the credits are discreetly given in a corner of the image, since credits in images violate the Wikipedia image use policy (at least for images that are created by Wikipedia users). If there's no opposition, I'll make such a change in a few weeks. —Bkell (talk) 08:31, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it, I say. No sense in making another template for something only tangentially different. (While you're at it, I wonder if this template shouldn't be derived from the code of one of the other image cleanup templates; I based it on the rather more generic {{cleanup}}.) –Unint 19:37, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Erroneous or misleading

[edit]

This template states that images with embedded credits are in violation of the image use policy if user-made. However, the image use policy says nothing of the kind. Either the policy needs to be changed or (more likely) the template is in error. 192.91.147.35 (talk) 23:50, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently the policy page has been restructured, and the link in this template no longer pointed to the correct section. Thank you for noticing this; I've corrected the link. Please see WP:WATERMARK, which states, "Free images should not be watermarked, distorted, have any credits in the image itself or anything else that would hamper their free use…". —Bkell (talk) 23:58, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Timestamps

[edit]

Do timestamps in the image count as watermarks for the purposes of this template? Or is there a different template that should be used instead for cameras that automatically timestamp their images? Cooljeanius (talk) (contribs) 22:14, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
