Proposal to use footnote instead of hatnote

[edit]

I started a discussion here as I believe these types of templates would be less jarring if they appeared as a supplementary footnote rather than a "warning" above the lead. —Designate (talk) 19:01, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indonesians with polynymic names

[edit]

How is this template to be used with:

  • Indonesians who have polynymic names that are not patronymic but who go by their given names
  • Indonesians who have polynymic names but where the article writer does not know if it is a patronymic name?

why there is no matronymic in indonesian?

[edit]

well i cannot understand it. please in the current generation it is possible to have their name with matronym as a surname. i dont even know the law of indonesia allows them to have matronym. can you explain it? 2404:8000:1027:85F6:EDF0:5F20:BD99:82FB (talk) 06:44, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia entry on Indonesian name does note that matronyms are possible, but this particular entry is merely a hatnote template. To my knowledge, there are no Indonesian biographical entries with a matronym yet on English Wikipedia, so this template only accounts for patronymic instances. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)19:46, 6 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
