Scope of the list

[edit]

The choices for this template were quite deliberate, these "Dynastic" militaries all have their own articles on the Vietnamese-language Wikipedia and can be imported here in the future (look up "Quân đội nhà XXX"). The images were also deliberately chosen as they represent (from top to bottom) the flag of the Nguyễn Dynasty during its independent period, the badge of the Imperial Guard of the Nguyễn dynasty during the Bảo Đại (保大) period under French rule, and the coat of arms of the Tirailleurs indochinois (French Army). These images show independent Vietnam, protectorate Vietnam, and the colonial authorities as the evolving phases of the Vietnamese military over the years. The date 1945 was also deliberately chosen as it's what Vietnamese historians use as the end date of the "Medieval era" (中代, Trung đại) and opens up the "messy" post-World War II period in Vietnamese history that sees dozens of new militaries and militias pop up ever few years. --Donald Trung (talk) 20:46, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For context, the "Imperial Vietnamese Army" is the Japanese-trained military of the Empire of Vietnam that existed in 1945, it didn't exist for long and was disbanded after the August Revolution. I am planning on writing an article about it in the future. --Donald Trung (talk) 21:00, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
