Curtis Jordan Bashaw (born April 20, 1960) is an American real estate developer, entrepreneur, and businessman. He became the Republican nominee for the 2024 United States Senate election in New Jersey on June 4, 2024, going against Democratic nominee Andy Kim, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for New Jersey's 3rd congressional district.
Bashaw was born in Camden County, New Jersey,[1] and was raised in Cherry Hill and Haddonfield, spending summers working at the Congress Hall Hotel.[2] On January 29, 2024, he announced his candidacy for senator representing New Jersey in the United States Senate.[3] He challenged the incumbent Democratic senator Bob Menendez, who was being indicted on corruption and bribery charges.[4]

[edit]On January 29, 2024, Bashaw announced that he would be running for senator in the 2024 United States Senate election and in the Republican primary. In the primary, he rivaled against Justin Murphy, the Deputy Mayor of Tabernacle Township, and Christine Seranno Glassner, the mayor of Mendham Borough, who received the endorsement of former president, and 2024 Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.[5]
Personal life
[edit]Bashaw lives in Cape May, New Jersey,[1] a city and seaside resort located at the southern tip of Cape May County, with his husband, Will Riccio. Bashaw identifies as gay,[6] and if elected, he would become New Jersey's first senator that is openly part of the LGBTQ+ community. He would also become the first Republican to be elected as senator since Clifford P. Case, who last won the 1972 United States Senate election in New Jersey and had been serving as senator since he was first elected in 1954. This was until 1978, when Case lost the Republican primaries for the 1978 United States Senate election in New Jersey to Jeff Bell and was unable to run as senator again for that election.
He identifies as an Evangelical Christian, after breaking away from Presbyterianism earlier in his life.[7]
