My name is Alex Amies. I am a software engineer by profession. Please contact me to review, edit, or contribute to articles in my areas of expertise. I am including a brief description of my areas of expertise below and partial list of publications. My vision for Wikipedia is to have ample and accurate information for all the things that are important to me. All of the content that I write on Wikipedia only represents my own views.

Software Development and Cloud Computing

I have worked in software development with Java, Python, and Go for about 20 years in projects from 5 to over 200 people in size. I have been involved in all phases of software development from project feasibility studies, requirements definition, design, coding, usability studies, testing, certification, deployment, professional services, and support. My domain areas of expertise are cloud computing and natural language processing.

Buddhism

I have studied Buddhism academically and as a practicing Buddhist.

I volunteer as a Chinese-English translator and for building translation tools for 佛光山 Fo Guang Shan.

Projects

I have created and maintain the several web projects (source is at Github):

  1. Chinese Notes Chinese-English dictionary and digital library of literary Chinese classic and historic texts for English speakers
  2. NTI Buddhist Text Reader
  3. Humanistic Buddhism Reader

Personal Interests and Beliefs

One of my main interests is in Chinese language, history, and culture. I lived in Mainland China for over five years, speaking Chinese in my day-to-day work and life during that time.
