Chris Pumroy is a former Infantry Marine, who served in Iraq, and an endurance athlete. After his mother died of leukemia, Pumroy began long-distance races to raise money for children with cancer. In 2010, Pumroy entered the Furnace Creek 508 in Death Valley and cycled over 250 miles before collapsing from heat exhaustion. Pumroy had never competed in an ultramarathon cycling race before. Pumroy has competed in many different endurance events such as the Lake Stevens Ironman 70.3, where he placed highly. By October,2010, Pumroy had raised $23,800.[1] for children with cancer.
