Clifford S. Pukel M.D.
Dr Clifford Pukel is the CEO of of the Cancer Vaccine Institute and the Cancer Immunotherapy Institute; is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine; his achievements have been recognized and he has been elected to Who's Who in the World, America, Science and Engineering, and Medicine and Health Care.
Dr. Pukel is a student of Dr Lloyd J Old at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Dr. Old, among his extraordinary achievements in medical science is the founder of modern cancer immunology, and is a leader in cancer immunotherapy and vaccine development. His earliest work with Dr Old and his colleagues was in human cancer immunology and biochemistry in the 1980's, which led to the discovery of tumor associated gangliosides, particularly in melanoma, and his research included the first complete structural characterization of a tumor associated antigen (GD3) (Ref), as well as describing human autoantibodies against a tumor ganglioside (GD2) whose presence may positively influence long term survival in melanoma patients(Ref).
