I attend Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, where I am earning credits to transfer to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in Little Rock, Arkansas, where I formerly resided (and have >100 credit hours built up).

Three-Dimensional Self-Similar Fractals

Why do snowflakes seem like they are "designed" in two spatial dimensions then exuded into our three-dimensional space? I.e., why are snowflakes "flat?" Is there a self-similar fractal example in three dimensions? Seeming dead-ends in the search were Sierpiński_triangle and its mention of the pyramid form.
