The definitions of sepsis and septic shock can be contentious because they are not specific illnesses but rather syndromes encompassing a still-uncertain pathobiology.[1]
Sepsis is defined as life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection.[1] The term sever sepsis was concluded to be redundant.[1]
Septic shock is defined as a subset of sepsis in which particularly profound circulatory, cellular, and metabolic abnormalities are associated with a greater risk of mortality than with sepsis alone.[1]

Can you try to use more lay terms in this so someone without a medical background can understand it? I know that this is hard. You can also add Wikilinks to some of these terms. Good work so far!
