Tamas Fülöp Award - February 2008

At the occasion of the Network: TUFH's 25th anniversary, the Executive Committee installed the Tamas Fülöp Award (TFA). Tamas Fülöp, who was in a leadership role at WHO Headquarters in Geneva at the time, took the initiative to establish The Network in 1979.

The TFA honours a person/organisation/institution/Group for outstanding contributions to The Network: TUFH. The award consists, apart from a certificate, of an economy ticket to travel to a future Network: TUFH Conference (to be filled in within three years from the year of award), space in the Newsletter and a worldwide announcement through our hlt-net Alert.

During the General Meeting in Kampala, Uganda in September 2007 the 2nd TFA was presented to a very honoured Dr. Khalifa Elmusharaf from Sudan.

Dr. Khalifa Elmusharaf, a medical doctor, has been always inspired in the field of medical education, researches and woman health since he was an undergraduate.

The first Network conference he attended was in Bahrain in 2000 and since then he actively participated in conferences in Kenya (2002), Australia (2003), USA (2004), Vietnam (2005), Belgium (2006) and Uganda (2007).

Dr. Elmusharaf has been an active participant and contributor in these conferences and was a member of Poster Evaluation Committee and National coordinator of Sudanese participants in Australia In Vietnam he was a member of Conference Evaluation Committee and he won the best poster award. In Belgium he organized and co-facilitated a workshop titled “Practical skills for students and young health professional to setup community projects”. In addition to that he is an active member of Evaluation Committee of the Women and Health Taskforce. During the above mentioned conferences he presented several posters. One of the posters was published in the Network: TUFH Newsletter and the other one was submitted to the Journal Education for Health

Dr. Elmusharaf underwent his professional medical training in Obstetrics & Gynecology, received the Part 1 MRCOG Degree (UK) and he is currently pursuing his training as a Registrar in Sudan. And during this period he has been involved continuously in research work in different fields of Obstetrics & Gynecology. During these years he underwent a postgraduate-diploma in Research Methodology and Biostatistics as well as a part 1 Clinical MD in Community Medicine in an attempt to integrate his clinical experience with that of the epidemiological and research approach.

Dr. Elmusharaf has been relevant to the advancement of health in his community, in different areas including medical education, medical students' activities, health service delivery, health researches and community charity work. He established and led many students and medical organizations and conducted workshops and training courses concerning leadership developing program. He organized & participated in more than 30 medical trips to rural areas of Sudan, which included medical students training, charity medical services, health education and promotion and small projects implementation, which was of grate values.
