Electronics and semiconductor manufacturing industry in India

History

[edit]

The concept of ancient batteries like Baghdad Battery found in Mesopotamia had intrugued the theories on similar devices in ancient cultures including India, but there is no concrete evidence to support the evidence of such devices. The ancient Indian medical treatise named Sushruta Samhita describes the usage of magnetic properties in the lodestone to remove arrows embedded in a person's body which is the earliest known knowledge of magnetism in India.[1] The history of electronic industry in India dates back to 1940s when it began to manufacture radio receivers. But the reasons for development in electronics sector came in 1960s with the advent of transistor radios, development and maintenance of fundamental communication systems including radio-broadcasting, telephonic and telegraphic communication, and augmentation of defense capabilities.[2]
