Herb Riede

[edit]

Herb Riede is a 36 year old father of three, the Webmaster for Enesco and lives in Meadville, PA.

He is an associate member of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, the first round judging group for the Webby Award.

He served one term as Mayor of McSherrystown, and likes to play poker on the World Tavern Poker Tour. As Mayor, he was most recently on television in the 2008 primary as one of 100 Pennsylvania Mayors who endorsed Hillary Clinton for President. ABC 27 (Harrisburg, PA) covered a community panel including Riede that was instructing local residents on "How To Run For Local Office" [1]. His latest poker win was in Atlantic City in May 2007 at the World Tavern Poker Open, besting 170 players in a $40+10 buy-in tournament for $1438 each in a three-way chop with two other people.

Riede has been elected to public office thrice, and received both the Republican and Democratic nominations in two elections (2003 for Council, 2005 for Mayor), and won his third election by write in with a single vote (2011 for Assessor). He was nominated for re-election as Mayor in 2009, but removed himself from the ballot to move near ailing family. He has traveled from California to New Hampshire for politics, Florida to New York for programming, and from Atlantic City to Vegas for poker.

Riede lost in a special election in 2013 for School Board.

Involved in Poker

[edit]

Amateur Poker Player and member of the Poker Player's Alliance

Have won dozens of live organized and casino tournaments including in Atlantic City with as many as 170 people, and online tournaments with over a thousand. Previous nationals qualifier in the World Tavern Poker Tour, working with the tour on web issues and not playing as much in recent seasons. Have played NL, Limit, Omaha and PL at Benny's Bullpen, The Orleans, AC Hilton, AC Taj Mahal. Grew up, in part, in Vegas (moved before 21).

Supports the idea that live poker (especially in Pennsylvania) is a skill game equal to Scrabble, Yu-Gi-Oh, Billiards or Backgammon, in that it is legal, and should be able to be organized publicly, even for profit. Does not support "legalizing" poker in casinos if it makes the game, now quasi-legal elsewhere, specifically illegal.
