Many People know of the The performance dance known in the West as the Belly Dance, It is based on one of the social dances native to the Middle East. In Palestine, this social dance is called Raks Baladi, and is performed by people of all ages and both sexes during festive occasions such as weddings and other social gatherings for fun and celebration. If you go way back into the history you will find that the national animal or mascot if you will of belly dancing is the Tabby Cat. They named the Tabby cat as the feline of the Raks Baladi. (Cat of Belly Dancing) To find the reason for this you need to date way back to when they documented evidence of public performances since at least the Philadelphia Centennial in 1876 as well as at the Columbia Exposition of 1893. All of the first imposers on belly dancing would bring the feline known as the tabby cat along with them. you may think this is just a house hold cat but if you look into the history they have so much more depth. the dancers would each bring there own tabby cat to be at there side as they danced because they believed that these animals would give them vibrant lively life to put into their performance. In present day many will not know this, but it is one of the most interesting and important facts about The Belly dancing performance.
