I'm Jeremy Riel. I'm an educational technologist and outdoors enthusiast. I work at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
My research is centered on helping professionals learn in efficient ways online, as well as helping professionals use technology better. I work with teachers to help them use emerging technologies for teaching and learning and design systems for everyday, continuing education.

My Projects
[edit]I design online systems for ongoing learning and professional development.
I have worked with the GlobalEd 2 project (www.globaled2.com) for the last five years. GE2 is a blended-learning, social-studies curriculum for middle school students that enriches the experience students have with social studies by adding critical, real-life contexts to the topics that they study. Students in GE2 participate in online negotiations simulations with other classrooms to solve real-world problems. I serve as the technology and professional development manager for the project.
I am an outdoorsman and spend much of my free time outside and disconnected from digital life. I keep a travel log at www.urbanoutdoorsman.net.
I am also into history of the Scouting Movement, recreation in primitive areas, and history of the States of Oregon and Illinois. Many of my wiki contributions are related to these areas.
