The Jargo Buster (Jargonia Busterius) is an agamid lizard found in small pockets of rainforest in Africa, it is listed as critically endangered[1] with aroung 200 mating pairs in the wild as of 2009.

Description

[edit]

The Jargo Buster has an average size of 15 centimetres (0.49 ft) from head to tail, it has an average weight of 1 pound (0.45 kg). They have a series of ridges on their spines, with the males ridges becoming inflamed during the mating season. The females of the species generally have a more vibrant colour on theri bodies. They have a four claws on each foot, used to grapple with their prey before they stun it. This allows them much more versatility both in the types of prey they can eat as well as allowing them to climb tree as well as rock faces. They do this to reach warmth in the morning, as they are cold blooded. This means that they cannot regulate their own body temperature.[2]

Distribution

[edit]

Once thought to be found throughout most of the civilised world, due to large amounts of prey available to them; Jargo Busters were thought to be extinct, mainly due to the introduction of larger predators. However since their rediscovery in 2012[3]they are now believed to be found only in a small pockets of Africa, where they are now protected.

Distribution of Jargonia Busterius. Due to their effectiveness at hunting, they are very sparsely distributed in their habitat.

Diet

[edit]

Jargo Busters consume mainly insects as well as small mammals[4]. Although they have teeth, these are designed for gripping prey and not tearing it up. So prey is swallowed whole, after it is stunned by being shaken roughly. Sometimes, young inexperienced Jargo Busters may choke on prye which are too large. Occasionally Jargo Busters also consume vegetable matter.
