The 2004 Porto Alegre municipal election was held on 3 October 2004 to elect the mayor, the vice mayor, and 36 members of the Municipal Chamber. The election was won by former senator José Fogaça, who received 53.3% of the votes in the second round of voting, held on 31 October, over former mayor Raul Pont. Pont was more than 9% ahead of Fogaça in the first round.
This election ended the 16-year period of administration of the municipality by Workers' Party members, which began by the inauguration of Olívio Dutra in 1989.
