The December 2012 North American storm complex was a long-lasting, powerful Pineapple Express winter storm that developed from a strong Polar Jet Stream, and a strong atmospheric river that opened from the south of Hawaii. The storm shattered several rainfall records across California and other Western States. The storm also caused localized flooding and river floods across the West Coast. On December 8, the storm was absorbed by a more powerful winter storm that was approaching from the west, in the Gulf of Alaska.
