Claudette Roche is an an Accent (sociolinguistics) and Accent reduction coach and professional actress. She was born in London, England, lived in Montréal and Toronto, Canada and now resides in Los Angeles.
Background
[edit]Mabalub/Claudette roche at IMDb is a Drama-logue Award and NAACP Best Actress Award Winner and a veteran of stage and screen. She was a recurring character on the sitcom, The Game, and has appeared on TV hits like, Cold Case and Without A Trace. Claudette starred in the sci-fi action adventure series, Starhunter, with Michael Paré. Claudette studied drama with the Order Of Canada award winning, Dora Wasserman at the prestigious Saidye Bronfman Centre in Montréal and also learned improvisation at Second City in Toronto and with Gary Austin, founder of The Groundlings. Some alumni of Gary Austin are Helen Hunt and Lisa Kudrow. Roche studied acting with Milton Katselas and Jeffrey Tambor at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Some famous actors to have been under the tutelage of Katselas include; Gene Hackman, Jenna Elfman, George Clooney, Alec Baldwin, Giovanni Ribisi and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Accent versus Dialect
[edit]Accent refers to the sounds, the pronunciation of a language. A dialect is a version of a language that is special to a particular region or group. Many people having learned ESL (English as a second language) have been taught by non-native American speakers so when they come to the United States their English has traces of their original accent plus the accent of their teacher, therefore the accent is not American and may be difficult to comprehend. Claudette Roche is most known for her teaching of Real American providing techniques to help blend students into the population. Her foreign accent training for actors utilizes phonetic spelling and Roche teaches the class using the accent students wish to acquire. Roche teaches every accent spanning the globe including: Standard American, New York, UK (Irish, English, Scottish, Welsh), Chinese, Nigerian, Iranian, Russian, French, Italian, German and Mexican.
